I want to thank all of the families who have supported and been involved with F.C. United Homeschool Soccer over the last few years.  It has been great being able to coach our kids in a sport that I love personally and sharing the dream with other families who also want to see soccer opportunities available to our homeschool community.

The last year has been really rough and disappointing in that we have gained momentum at points and then lost it.  We had an indoor team which played one season and that was awesome but unfortunately we didn’t get enough players signed up to continue another season.  We finally formed an U-12 outdoor team only to have the rug pulled out from under us as the league we were going to play in lied to us and didn’t give us all the details.  And honestly, we haven’t had the families step up who have expressed an interest in building teams for the future.  I don’t mean to complain or place any blame…it just is what it is!

We have had a great amount of kids involved over several years but in a wide range of ages and interests such as just learning the game and having fun or getting exercise to more advanced players who want to be competitive and excel at soccer.  It’s difficult to bring such a range of interests together with just a few committed coaches and be able to do it well.  Again, I am truly thankful for all the families and children who have been involved.  All have been a blessing.  However, I am at a point where I must personally let go of it all or re-focus in a new way.

There is no way to keep moving in the direction we have been moving in.  We must have people who are willing to make sacrifices and step up.  We must have more interest than a program that is similar to Upward Bound or the Y.M.C.A. – who have outstanding and great programs – but which is not the vision of F.C. United Soccer.  My dream is having teams who love to play soccer, who want to be the best they can be and compete with excellence, and play in a way that honors God…eventually having teams who can play and win at the high school level.  And I had hoped it would be made up of homeschool students who desire the same.

We have three wonderful coaches and a dozen kids who have been practicing and sacrificing their time to stay involved for the long haul.  We will wrap up our practices at the end of April and will take a break where I plan on meeting with my leaders and changing direction.  I will gear everything towards recruiting and building players for an U-16 and U-14 competitive team and then possibly have an U-12 development team. These teams will be for players who want to focus on soccer and are committed to playing for the future.  If this sounds like something you are interested in please contact me today to get in on this.  There will be no more future opportunities for children who are under the age of 11 and just want to kick the ball around as we do not have the resources for this.

It occurred to me recently that I have forgotten to update this site.  I guess with Christmas and New Year activities taking up much of my time, posting the rest of the season’s results where off the radar.

We had a great indoor season and finished our last three games with two losses and one draw.  The last game was a nail-biter and probably the best game we played.  I’m proud of our guys – they did a fantastic job and it was quite tough for them because we didn’t have as many subs as the other teams had available.   I found out later that day as I was invited to play on a Coed team that it is really tough to play indoor and extremely hot on that field!  I learned a great lesson.

Thanks to all our players, families, and coaches who were a part of this season.   Thanks to all our friends who came out to watch and support us.   We now look towards offering tryouts and getting geared up for outdoor soccer.  I’ll be sure to share the details soon.
